Your opening for a day-shift CNA in memory care is the kind of work I keep asking for more of. For almost two years I have been a certified nursing assistant at Parkway Health and Rehabilitation in Memphis, caring for 10 to 12 long-term residents a shift and picking up extra shifts on our 18-bed secured memory care unit.
Memory care has taught me to slow down. Many of our residents do better with the same aide at the same time each morning, a quiet explanation before every step, and a second try ten minutes later instead of a rushed bath. After finishing the CMS Hand in Hand training I started keeping notes on what works for each resident, like who likes music during care and who needs to be approached from the front, and I pass those along at shift change.
I also watch for small changes. Last winter one of my residents was more confused than usual and barely drinking. I filled out a Stop and Watch form and told the charge nurse, and she was treated for a urinary tract infection early. I chart every ADL in PointClickCare before I leave, and I am comfortable with Hoyer and sit-to-stand lifts.
My Tennessee Nurse Aide Registry status is active and my BLS is current. I would be glad to come in for a working interview on your memory care unit. You can reach me at (901) 555-0127.
