What nurse managers screen for

Nursing applications are filtered on licensure and setting before anything else. Put your RN license, state and expiry near the top, then make your clinical setting unmistakable: ICU, med-surg, ED, telemetry, oncology. Nurse managers then look for patient load, acuity and unit size, so quantify them. Managing a six-patient telemetry assignment tells a manager far more than providing excellent patient care.

Credentials and systems to name

List every active certification with its issuing body and expiry: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CCRN. Name the EHR you charted in, because Epic, Cerner and Meditech are commonly screened terms. Include unit-specific competencies such as ventilator management, titrating drips, wound care or triage, and state charge-nurse or preceptor experience plainly, since it signals readiness for senior roles.

Common mistakes on nursing resumes

Nurses routinely undersell measurable outcomes. Infection-rate reductions, HCAHPS improvements, fall prevention and readmission changes all belong on the page. Skip the generic objective statement, never list a lapsed certification without noting that it is in renewal, and avoid abbreviating your unit in ways only your former employer would recognize.
