Your Traffic & Technology internship mentions signal design, ITS work and AutoCAD. For the past year I've been working on the counting side of transportation as a student employee at UNL Parking and Transit Services, and I'd like to spend next summer learning how that data becomes a design.
I'm a junior in civil engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a 3.4 GPA. At Parking and Transit I run occupancy counts in eleven campus lots twice a week and enter them into the department's Excel tracker. Last spring I added a summary sheet that showed two east campus lots were consistently under half full at 10 a.m., and my supervisor used it this fall when moving about 120 commuter permits.
In my engineering graphics course I drew a site plan for a small residential lot in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including a grading plan and a storm sewer profile, and I'm taking Transportation Engineering this semester. Our first project is a level-of-service analysis for 27th and Vine Street, using turning-movement counts my group collected over two mornings. Outside class I'm the hull construction lead for UNL's ASCE concrete canoe team, which means keeping a build schedule for eight people and a lot of sanding before the spring regional competition.
I'm available from mid-May through mid-August and can work in Lincoln or Omaha. I'd welcome a chance to talk, and I plan to stop by Olsson's table at the next engineering career fair.
