Recruiter cover letter example & template

A cover letter from an in-house recruiter applying to scale a sales team. It answers the hiring plan in the posting with the recruiter's own output, time to fill and acceptance numbers.

  • Opens on the company's stated hiring plan and matches it to the recruiter's annual volume.
  • Proof covers speed, quality and cost: time to fill, offer acceptance and agency spend.
  • Agency background is used as evidence of pace and closing, in one sentence.

Re: Recruiter, Go-to-Market
Dear Ms. Chen,

Your posting says Palisade plans to hire about 45 account executives, SDRs and customer success managers over the next twelve months, with one recruiter owning most of those reqs. I closed 61 hires last year on a desk that looks a lot like that one, and I would like to do it for a team that is building its sales org now.

At Summit Ridge Software I carry 18 to 24 open reqs across sales, finance and customer success in Greenhouse. The biggest change I made was on account executive roles, where time to fill had drifted to 52 days because feedback sat for a week after each interview. I agreed a 48-hour feedback rule with our sales leaders and built scorecards for every stage, and median time to fill came down to 38 days. My offer acceptance rate is 91%, mostly because I settle compensation range, start date and competing offers at the first screen.

About 40% of my hires come from my own sourcing in LinkedIn Recruiter and Gem, which let us end two agency contracts worth $180,000 a year. Before moving in-house I spent three years at Robert Half placing accounting contractors, which taught me to move quickly and to close.

If it would help, I can walk you through how I would set up intake and scorecards for your first five AE reqs.

Best regards,
Marcus Bell

How to write a recruiter cover letter

What the people reading these letters look for, and what makes them stop.

What to lead with

Recruiting leaders hire recruiters to hit a hiring plan, so open with theirs. If the posting or the company's announcements mention a number of hires, a new office or a team being built, connect it to the volume you already handle. That first paragraph should tell the reader you can carry their load, in numbers they recognize: reqs, hires per year, role families.

What proof to include

Pick one example that shows how you fix a hiring process, not just how you fill roles: a feedback rule, better intake meetings, structured scorecards. Give the before and after on time to fill, then add offer acceptance rate and share of hires you sourced yourself. Name the ATS and sourcing tools you have used, especially if they match the posting.

What to leave out

Skip talk about loving people or connecting talent with opportunity; every recruiter says it and the hiring manager reads past it. Do not list candidate or client names. Avoid inflated totals such as "thousands of candidates screened" without hires attached. Close with a concrete offer to talk through how you would run their first reqs.

Recruiter cover letter FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a recruiter cover letter include?

A strong recruiter cover letter opens with a specific hook tied to the role and company, proves your fit in one or two middle paragraphs with concrete, quantified examples, and closes with genuine interest and a clear next step. The example above shows that structure end to end.

How do I make a recruiter cover letter stand out?

Skip the generic opening and lead with something specific: a result you're proud of or a reason this company in particular. Back every claim with a number or a concrete example, and mirror the language of the job posting so it reads as tailored, not templated.

How long should a recruiter cover letter be?

Keep it to three or four short paragraphs on a single page, roughly 250 to 400 words. Hiring managers skim, so be specific and stop once you've made your case.

Can I tailor this recruiter cover letter to a specific job?

Yes. Create a free account, edit any section, switch the style and accent colour, and let Lucipath draft a version tailored to a specific posting from your profile and then download it as a PDF.
