Teacher resume example & template

A teacher resume that puts certification and licensure first, then proves impact the way schools measure it: growth scores, engagement and differentiated instruction, in a warm but ATS-safe layout.

  • State certification and grade/subject area surfaced at the top.
  • Outcomes quantified: proficiency growth, attendance, parent engagement.
  • An elegant, readable layout that still parses cleanly in school ATS.

How to write a teacher resume

What hiring teams in this field actually screen for, and the terms that get matched.

What principals and districts screen for

Teaching applications are filtered on licensure, grade band and subject before anything else, so state all three near the top. Principals then look for evidence of student growth, where test-score gains, reading-level movement, pass rates and attendance or behavior improvements are the strongest currency. Class size and student demographics give those numbers their meaning.

Credentials and platforms to name

List your teaching certificate with state, subject area and grade span, plus endorsements such as ESL, special education, gifted or reading specialist. Name the curricula and platforms you have taught with: Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, PowerSchool, IXL, and any specific program such as Wilson, Orton-Gillingham or Eureka Math. Differentiation, IEP and 504 experience is widely required and should be explicit.

Common mistakes on teaching resumes

Teachers frequently describe activities rather than outcomes, listing lessons planned rather than growth achieved. Another is omitting the certification detail a district's screening actually filters on. Avoid district-specific jargon that does not travel, and quantify wherever you can: raising proficiency from 61% to 78% across two cohorts beats improving student outcomes.

Teacher resume FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a teacher resume include?

A strong teacher resume opens with a concise professional summary, then work experience written as quantified, results-first bullets, followed by education, a skills section, and any certifications. The example above shows each section in order.

What skills should a teacher resume highlight?

Lead with the skills the job posting asks for. For a teacher, recruiters and ATS filters commonly look for Differentiated instruction, Classroom management, Literacy, Assessment, IEP support, and SEL. Group them so they are easy to scan.

Is this teacher resume template ATS-friendly?

Yes. It uses a single-column structure, standard section headings, real text (no text trapped in images), and no tables or graphics that confuse applicant-tracking systems, so it parses cleanly while still looking polished.

How long should a teacher resume be?

One page is ideal for most teachers. Use two pages only if you have ten or more years of directly relevant experience, then tune the text size and margins so it stays clean.
