Account Executive cover letter example & template

A B2B sales cover letter that leads with the number, then explains how it was built. It reads like a short forecast call: attainment, pipeline, and what changed in the sales process to move win rate.

  • Quota attainment and ARR appear in the first two sentences of the proof paragraph.
  • Explains the qualification change behind a better win rate, not just the result.
  • Closes with a direct ask for a conversation, the way a good rep ends a call.

Re: Account Executive, Mid-Market
Dear Hiring Manager,

Mid-market buyers of background screening software usually have several stakeholders: HR, recruiting, legal and finance all get a vote. Your posting for a Mid-Market Account Executive asks for someone who can run that kind of multi-threaded cycle, and that's how I've closed most of my business at HubSpot.

In 2024 I closed $2.4M in new ARR, 134% of quota, and I've made President's Club two years running. Most of that growth came from bigger deals rather than more of them. I stopped selling single-team contracts where I could and started mapping every department that would touch the product, which raised my average deal size by more than a third. I also source most of my own pipeline; last year I built about $6M of it outbound, so less than half of my deals start as inbound leads.

The change that mattered most was qualification. My win rate was 21% when I started using MEDDIC seriously, mainly because I was carrying deals with no economic buyer. Disqualifying those earlier freed time for the ones that could close, and my win rate is now 29%. I started as an SDR at Zoom and spent two years in territory sales before that, so I'm comfortable doing my own prospecting and working a full cycle in Salesforce, Outreach and Gong.

I'd welcome a call to walk through my numbers and how I'd build pipeline in your mid-market segment.

Best,
Olivia Reyes

How to write an account executive cover letter

What the people reading these letters look for, and what makes them stop.

What sales leaders look for first

Sales managers read a cover letter the way they read a forecast: they want the number early. State quota attainment, the size of the quota or ARR closed, and the year, in the first proof paragraph. Then show that the result is repeatable: a second year of attainment, a ranking on the team, or a club trip. Leaders also screen for fit with their motion, so match your deal size, sales cycle length and buyer (SMB, mid-market, enterprise; HR, IT, marketing) to theirs, and say so plainly if you've sold to the same persona.

Numbers and process terms that count

Beyond attainment, strong evidence includes average deal size or ACV, win rate, share of pipeline you sourced yourself, sales cycle length and expansion revenue. Naming your qualification method (MEDDIC, MEDDPICC, BANT) or sales training (Sandler, Challenger) is useful when you explain how it changed a number. Mention the stack from the posting that you've used, usually Salesforce plus an engagement tool like Outreach or Salesloft and a call recorder like Gong. Keep every figure consistent with your resume and LinkedIn; recruiters cross-check.

Mistakes that sink sales cover letters

The biggest is enthusiasm without numbers. Words like "driven" or "closer" carry no weight with a VP of Sales who has hired dozens of reps. Also avoid vague attainment ("consistently exceeded quota") without a percentage, attributing team or territory results to yourself, and hiding a year you missed number. If you missed, you'll be asked; have a short, honest answer ready rather than leaving a gap. Close like you would a good discovery call, with a specific ask for time, not a passive hope to hear back.

Account Executive cover letter FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a account executive cover letter include?

A strong account executive cover letter opens with a specific hook tied to the role and company, proves your fit in one or two middle paragraphs with concrete, quantified examples, and closes with genuine interest and a clear next step. The example above shows that structure end to end.

How do I make a account executive cover letter stand out?

Skip the generic opening and lead with something specific: a result you're proud of or a reason this company in particular. Back every claim with a number or a concrete example, and mirror the language of the job posting so it reads as tailored, not templated.

How long should a account executive cover letter be?

Keep it to three or four short paragraphs on a single page, roughly 250 to 400 words. Hiring managers skim, so be specific and stop once you've made your case.

Can I tailor this account executive cover letter to a specific job?

Yes. Create a free account, edit any section, switch the style and accent colour, and let Lucipath draft a version tailored to a specific posting from your profile and then download it as a PDF.
