Medical Assistant cover letter example & template

A cover letter from a certified medical assistant moving to a larger clinic. It answers the manager's real questions (credential, volume, injections, EHR) in the first two paragraphs.

  • Opens with the clinic's own patient population, not a generic statement of interest.
  • Proof paragraph covers rooming volume, vaccines and prior authorizations with numbers.
  • Closes by offering a working interview, a normal next step for MA hiring.

Re: Certified Medical Assistant, Family Medicine
Dear Ms. Salazar,

Your posting mentions a clinic where more than half of visits are in Spanish and providers expect patients roomed and ready before they open the chart. That describes the last four years of my work at University Health's family medicine clinic, and it is the part of the job I do best.

I room 22 to 28 patients a day for two physicians and a nurse practitioner in Epic, with vitals, histories and medication lists done before the provider walks in. I draw 15 to 20 samples a day, give IM and subcutaneous vaccines on provider order, and document every dose in ImmTrac2; our clinic had no findings on its 2025 Vaccines for Children site visit. I also prepare pre-visit care gap lists, which helped our A1c testing rate climb from 71% to 84%.

Before that, at a three-provider private practice, I handled about 45 prior authorizations a month and brought a three-week backlog down to four days. I mention it because your posting lists referrals and authorizations alongside clinical duties, and I am comfortable splitting a day between both. I hold the CMA (AAMA) and a current AHA BLS card, and I have trained six new MAs on our rooming workflow.

I would be glad to come in for a working interview or shadow shift so you can see how I run a room. You can reach me at (210) 555-0137.

Sincerely,
Daniela Ochoa, CMA (AAMA)

How to write a medical assistant cover letter

What the people reading these letters look for, and what makes them stop.

What to lead with

Open with the clinic's specialty, patient population or workflow as described in the posting, then connect it to what you already do each day. A practice manager reading thirty applications wants to see in the first lines that you have worked in a similar setting at similar volume. If you are bilingual and the clinic serves patients who speak that language, put it in the opening, because it often decides between two otherwise equal candidates.

Proof to include

Give numbers a manager can picture: patients roomed per day, providers supported, draws per day, prior authorizations per month. Name your credential with its certifying body (CMA from AAMA, RMA from AMT, CCMA from NHA) and your BLS card. Name the EHR, since retraining on Epic or athenahealth is a real cost to the clinic. One concrete result, such as a clean vaccine audit or a cleared authorization backlog, is enough to show you take ownership.

What to leave out

Leave out anything that sounds like independent clinical judgment, such as triaging calls or deciding which patients need to be seen. Managers are wary of applicants who blur MA scope. Skip the story of why you entered healthcare unless it is short and specific, and do not repeat your resume line by line. Keep the letter to one page; MA hiring moves quickly and a short, clear letter gets read.

Medical Assistant cover letter FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a medical assistant cover letter include?

A strong medical assistant cover letter opens with a specific hook tied to the role and company, proves your fit in one or two middle paragraphs with concrete, quantified examples, and closes with genuine interest and a clear next step. The example above shows that structure end to end.

How do I make a medical assistant cover letter stand out?

Skip the generic opening and lead with something specific: a result you're proud of or a reason this company in particular. Back every claim with a number or a concrete example, and mirror the language of the job posting so it reads as tailored, not templated.

How long should a medical assistant cover letter be?

Keep it to three or four short paragraphs on a single page, roughly 250 to 400 words. Hiring managers skim, so be specific and stop once you've made your case.

Can I tailor this medical assistant cover letter to a specific job?

Yes. Create a free account, edit any section, switch the style and accent colour, and let Lucipath draft a version tailored to a specific posting from your profile and then download it as a PDF.
