Real Estate Agent cover letter example & template

A cover letter from a mid-career central Ohio agent applying to a listing role on a local team. It gives the team lead the production and source-of-business facts they will ask about in the first call.

  • Opens with why this team and this role, using a detail about the team's listing business.
  • States sides, volume and list-to-sale ratio in one paragraph, the way a team lead would ask.
  • Explains that her referral base comes with her, which is the real question behind any agent hire.

Re: Listing Agent
Dear Ms. Adeyemi,

Your team's listings in Clintonville and Worthington are the ones I study when I prepare my own pricing, so when your Listing Agent opening came up I wanted to make the case directly. I have spent eight years in residential sales in Franklin and Delaware counties, and I want the next part of my career to be mostly listings.

In 2025 I closed 18 sides for $5.9 million in volume and $151,400 in GCI. Ten of those were listings, and they sold at 99.1% of list price on average. I price from a Cloud CMA built on MLS comps, walk the house with the seller before I send a number, and tell them early when a price will not hold. That conversation has kept my price reductions rare.

About 61% of my closings last year came from past clients and people they sent me, which I track in Follow Up Boss with a quarterly contact plan. That base comes with me. I also keep clean files in dotloop and have had no compliance holds in two years, so your transaction coordinator would not be chasing me for documents.

I would welcome a conversation about how your team splits listing and buyer work and what a first year would look like. I can meet any weekday morning at your Worthington office.

Sincerely,
Allison Mercer

How to write a real estate agent cover letter

What the people reading these letters look for, and what makes them stop.

What to lead with in a real estate agent cover letter

Team leads and brokers read agent letters for one question: will this person add closings without costing more support than they bring in. Open with something that shows you know their business, such as their neighborhoods, their listing focus or their price range, and say which side of the business you want. A buyer's agent and a listing agent are different hires, and a letter that tries to be both reads as unfocused.

Proof a team lead or broker wants to see

Give last year's production in one sentence: closed sides, sales volume and GCI. Then give the evidence behind the role you want. For listings, that is list-to-sale ratio, days on market or how you handle pricing conversations. For buyers, it is conversion from showing to contract and experience with programs like FHA, VA or state down payment assistance. Say where your business comes from, since a referral base moves with you, and mention the CRM and transaction tools you already use.

What to leave out

Skip the paragraph about loving houses or helping families find their dream home. Every applicant writes it and it tells a broker nothing about production. Leave out team volume presented as your own, commission split demands, and complaints about your current brokerage. If you are newly licensed, do not pad with vague promises; name the license date, any sales or leasing background, and your plan for your first 90 days of lead generation.

Real Estate Agent cover letter FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a real estate agent cover letter include?

A strong real estate agent cover letter opens with a specific hook tied to the role and company, proves your fit in one or two middle paragraphs with concrete, quantified examples, and closes with genuine interest and a clear next step. The example above shows that structure end to end.

How do I make a real estate agent cover letter stand out?

Skip the generic opening and lead with something specific: a result you're proud of or a reason this company in particular. Back every claim with a number or a concrete example, and mirror the language of the job posting so it reads as tailored, not templated.

How long should a real estate agent cover letter be?

Keep it to three or four short paragraphs on a single page, roughly 250 to 400 words. Hiring managers skim, so be specific and stop once you've made your case.

Can I tailor this real estate agent cover letter to a specific job?

Yes. Create a free account, edit any section, switch the style and accent colour, and let Lucipath draft a version tailored to a specific posting from your profile and then download it as a PDF.
