Sales Representative resume example & template

A territory sales representative resume from broadline foodservice distribution, the kind of B2B field sales where the rep sells to restaurant owners and chefs every week. It measures the job the way distributors do: territory sales, gross profit dollars, new accounts and past-due receivables.

  • Territory scope up front: 68 independent accounts and about $4.3M in annual sales.
  • Gross profit dollars and account penetration, the numbers distribution sales managers pay on.
  • A kitchen manager background that explains why chefs trust this rep's menu costing work.

How to write a sales representative resume

What hiring teams in this field actually screen for, and the terms that get matched.

What sales managers screen for in a rep

A sales manager reads a rep's resume for the size of what you carried and whether it grew. State the territory or book plainly: number of accounts, type of customer, annual sales. Then show the metric your company paid you on. In distribution that is usually gross profit dollars and case volume, not revenue alone, because a rep who discounts to win volume can lose money for the company. New account counts, retention and how you protected margin on price-sensitive lines all tell a manager how you sell.

Terms and evidence that get matched

Postings for field and territory sales roles ask for outside sales experience, territory management, prospecting, account penetration, quota attainment and a CRM, usually Salesforce. Match the product category and customer type in the posting: foodservice, building products, industrial MRO, medical supplies. Industry credentials help where they exist, such as ServSafe for foodservice or a manufacturer's product certification. A background on the customer's side of the counter, like kitchen or trades work, is worth a line of its own.

Common mistakes on sales representative resumes

The first is quota percentages with no base, such as 142% of quota, which says nothing about the size of the book. Give the dollar or account figure next to it. The second is a stack of awards and rankings with no description of what you actually sold or to whom. The third is copying software sales language like ARR and SDR handoffs into a distribution or field role, where managers want to hear about route days, product demos and collections.

Sales Representative resume FAQ

Quick answers before you start writing.

What should a sales representative resume include?

A strong sales representative resume opens with a concise professional summary, then work experience written as quantified, results-first bullets, followed by education, a skills section, and any certifications. The example above shows each section in order.

What skills should a sales representative resume highlight?

Lead with the skills the job posting asks for. For a sales representative, recruiters and ATS filters commonly look for Territory planning, Account penetration, Menu costing, Product cuttings and demos, Pricing and margin management, and Credit and collections. Group them so they are easy to scan.

Is this sales representative resume template ATS-friendly?

Yes. It uses a single-column structure, standard section headings, real text (no text trapped in images), and no tables or graphics that confuse applicant-tracking systems, so it parses cleanly while still looking polished.

How long should a sales representative resume be?

One page is ideal for most sales representatives. Use two pages only if you have ten or more years of directly relevant experience, then tune the text size and margins so it stays clean.
